Select Mannerisms
Select Mannerisms is a stone faced contemporary ballet work revolving around two spoken word tracks and one instrumental. Throughout the 7 minute piece, the trio speedruns the grief process while also learning to grow up together. The vocal tracks (by Ethan Hawke and Fall Out Boy) lean into poetically discussing parent-child relationships, early onset apathy, and being sad on your birthday. Tied together by original music titled Garden of Eden by Rene Mancia, William Pilarte, and Efrain Pagan, the quality of dance contains mostly sharp movements. Combined with the strength of togetherness in partnering, the movement begins to almost lead before the words, as opposed to responding to the music.
Created and performed while in residence at New York City Emerging Artist Project (directed and produced by Anabel Alpert).
Costumes graciously provided by New Chamber Ballet.
Dancers: Anaka Weiss-Jones, Fiona Kirkland, Ava Schandlbaauer
