A New York native, Ava Desiderio is a mover, educator, and choreographer. In the past, they have danced with Alabama Ballet and Eglevsky Ballet, working with choreographers such as Gabrielle Lamb, Dennis Nahat, and Garrett Smith. Since coming back to New York, Ava has participated in stage and film productions with Sarah Marazzi-Sassoon, Jude Icarus, and Francis Patrelle in addition to her own self produced work. They are also a company member with Sheep Meadow Dance Theater, led by Billy Blanken. Past choreographic residencies include NYC Emerging Artist Project and Kaatsbaan Cultural Park. Most notably, Ava has had choreography shown at Miami City Ballet School, Renversé Ballet, Steps on Broadway, and Columbia University. Ava is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. They are currently on faculty at Edgewater Performing Arts.
Early training includes Petrov Ballet School (now Waldwick School of Ballet), continuing her training with Ballet Academy East under Darla Hoover and Miami City Ballet School under Arantxa Ochoa. Ava’s other training includes San Francisco Ballet, The Royal Ballet School, American Ballet Theatre, New Chamber Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Courtney Sauls, Sissa Strain, and Orsolina28 working with Jacob Jonas The Company. Ava also directs, choreographs and produces dance films, the most recent edition being WHEN WE’RE TOGETHER.
Other art collaborations include appearing as a model in Primadonna Zine issues 2&3 and making their film appearances in “A for Apricots” by Kevin Chiu and “Love, Simply” by Luna Abreia/ Fashion Institute of Technology.
